Biggest DDDDDRRRRROOOOOPPPPP!!!!!!......of the week: Tie between Adele - Someone Like You and Cobra Starship - You Make Me Feel (-14)
Biggest Jump of the week: Lady Gaga - Marry the Night (+17)

Jumping on to the countdown are a trio of graduates from Hit-Bound.  First up is LMFAO - Sorry for Party Rocking.  I touched on this song a little bit last week.  I've changed my tune on it somewhat.  It's not a worthless piece of crap.  The beat is pretty sick.  The rest of the song, however, is worthless crap.  Gavin DeGraw - Not Over You is a solid tune and is certainly in the upper half of the current countdown songs.  And finally Toby Keith - Red Solo Cup jumped on.  The premise of the song is pretty amusing….it's all about why a red solo cup is preferable to all other drink containers at parties.  It's pretty catchy and certainly creative enough to be worthy of a thumbs-up from this guy.

So now we sit at a situation where there's a lot of good stuff on the countdown, but really nothing interesting anywhere near the top.  Of the top 10, #2, #3, and #10 are crap, #1, #6, and #9 are kind of mediocre, and #4, #5, #7, and #8 are old-ish songs that are really starting to wear out their welcome.  So nothing exciting going on there.  This makes me afraid that Katy Perry and Rihanna are going to have an extended stay in the top couple of spots, which would be pretty undesirable.

Only a couple things further to add.  Ryan Seacrest posted the Top 40 for the year.  He has Pitbull Ft. Ne-Yo - Give Me Everything at #1, which seems…..pretty wrong.  Stay tuned for next week when we count down the 45 most wutchuwanted songs of 2011!

Gym Class Heroes (6) - Week of December 17, 2011

Geeez….again?  Not the best week in Countdown land, but I don't think I can ever complain when the worst song on the countdown is kicked off.  Before we get on to this week's Fresh 45, here's a list of all the songs we're saying good-bye to this week:

  • Swedish House Mafia - Save the World
  • Britney Spears - Criminal
  • Coldplay - Paradise
The Countdown: (Source: Wikipedia)

Biggest DDDDDRRRRRROOOPPPPP!!!!!!!......of the week: Kelly Clarkson - Mr. Know It All (-18)
Biggest Jump of the week: Lenny Kravitz - Stand (+17)

A few interesting new entrants to say the least.  The lone Hit-Bound graduate was Coldplay Ft. Rihanna - Princess of China.  That combination, at first glance, has all the chemistry of oil and water, but the song itself is interesting.  My ongoing Rihanna comment is that her music is a tremendous waste of an excellent voice.  This is not the case regarding her performance in Princess of China.  She's downright impressive in this new song.

Justin Bieber's famous Christmas album has produced a countdown-worthy song in Mistletoe.  It's a good song for the season.  However, I fully expect Hits-1 to give it a swift DTHNOB to the face after we flip the calendar back to January.  And finally, also going from high school to the NBA this week is Lady Gaga - Marry the Night.  I think it's probably the best song off of her newest album besides Born This Way, and I think we are just about ready to close the book on that album.  It feels like she's lost her edge a little bit.  Of Born This Way, Judas, The Edge of Glory, You and I, and Marry the Night, only one of them has hit #1, Marry the Night probably won't, and that's probably the right outcome all around.  A lot of what made her so enticing before this album was how weirdly addicting some of her songs were.  Because they were, you know, weird.  However, you could probably only definitively put Judas in the "weird" column of those listed, and it was easily the worst of the five.

I'm again very frightened of the pretty real possibility that we could see Katy Perry - The One That Got Away at #1 in the near future.  Kind of the opposite of Lady Gaga, all of Katy Perry's songs she's put out EXCEPT one probably have deserved the #1 spot, and this is that one.  Even worse, we could see Rihanna Ft. Calvin Harris - We Found Love strike it big, and that would be an absolute nightmare because that song is a total station-changer.  Taking a quick look at the top 10, I don't really see anything but one of those two songs stopping Stereo Hearts from holding the top spot for a 7th time.  Given the alternatives, maybe the status quo is best, even if it puts that song undeservingly in the company of Katy Perry - Last Friday Night with a tie for most wins.

During my customary YouTubing of Hit-Bound songs that have not yet entered the countdown, I discovered that LMFAO has in fact put another song out there called Sorry for Party Rocking.  We can learn two lessons from this.  First, that group has little-to-no creativity, and second, no matter how terrible you are at producing music, you could always get even more awfuler.

Gym Class Heroes (5) - Week of December 9, 2011

Unfortunately, it appears as though my sources have dried up.  The section on the Wikipedia page showing the countdown list has disappeared.  It was originally partially updated earlier this week, but there was definitely something wrong (somehow, I don't think Kelly Clarkson - Mr. Know It All managed both the biggest jump and the biggest DDDDDDDRRRRRROOOOOOPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!.......of the week.)  However, I remember enough about it to give some quick hits here.  Before we don't get on to this week's Fresh 45, here's a list of all the songs we're saying good-bye to this week:

  • Pixie Lott - All About Tonight
  • JTX - Love In America (DTHNOBx2)
  • Foster the People - Pumped Up Kicks
  • Bad Meets Evil Ft. Bruno Mars - Lighters

It was a quality-in, quality-out week for the countdown.  Collectively, a good group of songs got kicked off, but the replacements were nothing to sneeze at.  Resurrected was Foster the People - Don't Stop (Color on the Walls), thus ensuring it wouldn't hold the record for most hysterically short countdown tenure in history.  Which is good, because it definitely doesn't deserve that fate.  Long-time Hit-Bound veteran Sean Kingston - Party All Night jumped into the Top 45, and it's a very welcome addition.  Lenny Kravitz - Stand is something of a mediocrity.  But hey, he's famous, right?  And finally, Cobra Starship jumps in with Fool Like Me, which is the best song that they've put out there.  I wish I could say "that's saying something, because they've had 2 #1s out of their 3 historical coundown songs", but unfortunately, You Make Me Feel and (to a lesser extent) Good Girls Go Bad kind of take the power out of that statement.

We might go on hiatus or become a bit more sporadic in the coming weeks until a more reliable source of information is found.  Until then, keep wutchuwanting everyone!
